Opened in January 2014, the long awaited dream of grandson and son brings to the fore a marriage of food and wine. Food and wine is pure – this is expressed through our menu and wine list. Ideals from traditional Italian and French bistro design, bars and our European upbringing have been borrowed in the design and ethic.
Set in the heart of Northcote’s High Street, Bar Nonno’s front bar allows you to sit back and take in the wonders of Melbourne’s inner north. The front bar area seats 100, and is a bottle shop for those wanting a tipple at home. As you weave through the space, you will find yourself in the haven of the middle dining room and then out to the courtyard area set among a fresh herb garden. The upstairs private function space allows the team at Bar Nonno to express their European hospitality as they personally cater for your event.
The kitchen, led by Head Chef David Murphy, (ex. Bistro Thierry, PM24, GG – Melbourne) brings a wealth of knowledge on the French classics, fine dining and Modern European cuisine to the table. Alongside him, our Pizzaiolo Marco Vicentin (Pizzeria I Tigli – Verona, Italy) brings the authentic art of pizza making to Melbourne.
When it comes to wines, Sommelier David Carlei has an extensive range of wines to pique the interest of every palate. Our wine list sits at just under 120 wines, and spans over four continents, from some of the finest wine regions and producers in the world. These are real wines, allowed to reveal their own personality, through “sense of place” – a combination of variety, region, soil and climate. Real wines that show terrior, the indelible imprint of the environment, are natural and free of artificial elements and interfaces.
